. . . “The eyes, ears, nose, merged in the individual body function for the whole body without knowing why, simply because it is their function; a Sadguru functions for the whole of humanity, although he knows that creation is all an illusion.

“Your eyes, ears, nose, mouth belong to you. They are merged in you. But they are not you, and they are dependent upon you for their existence. You are not dependent upon them for your existence. If you lose your sight, your hearing, your sense of smell, your sense of taste, you will not cease to exist.

“If anyone asked you why you see with the eyes, or hear with the ears, or smell with the nose, you could not tell him. So it is with the different ways to attain Self-realization; they depend entirely on what the consciousness of the individualized soul is impressed with at the beginning of its evolution.

“The whole thing hinges on how the drops come out of the Ocean of Divinity, and how they go back, even though, in reality, they neither come out nor go back.

"It must be remembered that these are statements concerning principles of states of consciousness which are essentially beyond the grasp of intellect. They are the basic laws which govern an infinite variety of expression. Every Majzub, for example, will differ somewhat in expression from every other Majzub: every Avataric manifestation will differ from every other Avataric manifestation. The creative process is infinitely varied; nothing in it is ever repeated in exactly the same way.

"And, in regard to the evolutionary process, it is well to remember always that the beginning is a beginning in consciousness, the evolution is an evolution in consciousness, the end, if there be an end, is an end in consciousness . . . "Man’s pilgrimage through time and space is but a part of God's pilgrimage from unconscious or latently conscious divinity to conscious divinity. God in his essential nature is unconsciously divine, just as a fetus in its mother’s womb is unconsciously human. And, just as the baby, coming into consciousness, becomes conscious first of its surroundings, so God, coming into consciousness, becomes conscious first of His creation, which begins to evolve simultaneously with the advent of consciousness. And, just as the child becomes aware of itself first through the medium of its physical body, and identifies itself with that, so God becomes aware of Himself first through the medium of the individual soul and identifies Himself with that. Thus the evolution of the individual soul becomes His evolution, and the liberation of the individual soul becomes His liberation."
