"It is all one to me, so you mustn’t hesitate to make suggestions." Jean had one or two suggestions to make, and Baba said Jean should rest for an hour or two in the afternoon. Baba remarked that none of us ate well. (Such wonderful food had Naja and others prepared for us since 3 A.M. that morning. Indian food takes time.) "I now intend giving food myself as I used to do. This is the old custom of mine which I stopped the last four years. The food is brought to me, then you each bring your plate and I give it out. Jesus did that!" (Only later did we learn that food the Master hands you — prasad — must be finished to the last crumb.)

Now as to time — at 5 A.M. leave from here — will that suit you? Will that be difficult for you now that you know the road?"

The men's interview followed (interpreted by Adi). The question of strain was put to Garrett by Norina—"If you go to Meherabad, is it a great strain for you? Can you suggest anything to make it easier—and the food question." Garrett's reply, "Everything is all right." Baba continued:

Some of the talks Baba gave us were spontaneous discourses when he was in the mood for spiritual talks, as for instance, the following excerpts from the January 18th discourse:

"So easy for you to love those whom you love, but to love those whom you hate — that is something!

"By loving, I mean not merely being kind. Does anyone of you think it possible to love those whom you don't like? It will come."

Baba asked each in turn "Does anyone of you, when meditating, sleep? Do you repeat 'Baba?' What the goal is: the mind to go entirely and Self remain with full consciousness."

Further explanations followed and Elizabeth asked: "Where does one go when you go to sleep?” Baba replied, "Everywhere, you are always
