Editorial: Holding On To His Daaman

Baba says: "If you maintain a tight and lasting grip on my daaman,* you will remain with Me on the highest of levels or the lowest, wherever I may be . . . So long as you keep your grip tight it matters little whether you are a saint or a sinner . . . It is now for you to decide whether to hold on to My daaman, believing in Me and remaining devoted to Me, by following My orders and instructions . . ."

Baba is warning us that "the going is going to be rough" from now on; our love and faith in Him are on trial, and we will be tested both inwardly and outwardly. As He said long ago, "You must stick as close as you can to Me or you may find yourselves falling off. Like raindrops on an open umbrella that is twirled round, those that are furthest away are shaken off; those that are really close are unmoved. You all love Me greatly for you stick on. I love you more for I hold you to Me."

Evidently Baba is going to twirl His universe-umbrella very much faster in the future and those "furthest away" from Him—in love, not physical distance—will fall off. For it is love that makes us stick to Him through the whirl of Maya and the pull of sanskaras. Love alone is the "glue" strong enough to join our hearts to Him and make us capable of any sacrifice and strain. As His sister Mani wrote us, "You can't stick to Baba unless you love Him—that is the only connection with Him you can have, the only connection He wants."

"Love believeth all things, love suffereth all things." Obviously, to stand Baba's test we must increase our love for Him. His latest message to the West is, "Love Me more and more." But can this love for the Master be made or manufactured at will? Not really, for it flows from Him. It is His gift of grace. But we can make ourselves more receptive to it. We can clear away the obstructions and psychological blocks, our intellectual preconceptions, so that this spring of Divine Love may bubble up spontaneously. Though it comes from so deep a level, it is always there and will flow continuously in a pure heart.

What are the big obstacles to Love? Surely the intellect is one. No matter how highly developed and educated, in trying to understood a Seventh-plane Master, it must fail. A Master, by definition, is One who works on all planes.
