As Miss Conybeare points out, mankind has come to the full turn of one cycle and the beginning of another, a crucial time indeed, when "only some form of Divine Intervention can save humanity from total obliteration." We live in an age of great outward destruction and chaos, but one of equally great inner spiritual reconstruction, for those who have eyes to see, hearts to feel it, nay, to take part in it and bring the new Age to birth.

"Great suffering means great Liberation," the Master has said, and if humanity is wise, it will learn through its suffering, and follow the great Liberator out of the Avidya, the Ignorance. Torn by three great wars, depressions, political animosities, stifling materialism, worn-out creeds, and rationalist, defeatist philosophies everywhere which negate the higher life of man, certainly the West, and the East in her own way, need the Master of the true Life and the true Death—the death of the selfish ego. Here is a much-needed, cogent and well-written presentation of Baba and his "Real Work," to the western mind, and we strongly urge our readers to add it to their shelf of Baba books.

Speaking of this book, Mr. W. D. Kain, formerly Secretary Nehru* [sic] says: "The work seems to be a masterpiece of inspiration; it flows so harmoniously, sweetly and divinely. I say divinely; for could a worldly person pen even a fraction of these wonderful impressions without a Divine Guidance? One finds rhythm even in prose here. May your work be the clarion call to suffering humanity, that the Saviour has come." And Mr. Backett, our London editor, reports: "This book bridges the destructive gap left by the "Higher Criticism" of the Scriptures, which obscured their true purpose—to reveal the pathway of the Soul from man to God, as well as the recurring wonder, age after age, of God becoming man."

The Transcendent Unity of Religions, by Frithjof Schuon. Pantheon Books. $3.50

"The Transcendent Unity of Religions" is a study of the relationship and differences between Spirit and Form in religion, esotericism and exotericism . . . "the kernel and the shell" of Meister Eckhart. Every traditional religion is superior to the remaining ones in particular aspects of its revelation, but they are one in spirit. As expressed in the Vedas: "Men call the Truth that is One by various names."
