about Baba for years from a friend of his Mother's, Mary Parry (a Baba devotee) but up to then he had not taken much notice.

So we all spent a pleasant afternoon looking at photographs and talking about Baba. Katie sat by me and there was an immediate bond of affection end understanding between us.

This was the first of many more exhilarating afternoons and evenings. I felt as if Baba had taken me by the scruff of my neck and plunged me into a hippie atmosphere of music, laughter, parties, cups of tea and Baba talk. It was all very strange for not only did I feel in deep sympathy with them but completely at home, as if I had know them for ages past, though I had never met their like before. I found that they all had had drug experiences, heroin, pot, L.S.D. etc. Most of them had very little sense of time, but I soon adjusted myself to this and learned to ring up afternoons instead of mornings and also to say an earlier hour to the time I wanted them to be here.

The next move was that Michael, Katie and Dudley came to live in Richmond; they had taken a very nice large flat just near the river. From then on the pace quickened, they brought round friends or I went to them and I was always amazed at the enormous amount of social contacts the McInnerneys had. They could produce large numbers of diverse people at very short notice. Katie draws people like a magnet; it is not just her beauty but her quality of integrity and sympathy. All these young women were beautiful in different ways and were asking, seeking and so ready to pour out their heart’s longing in love for Baba.

I was delighted to be taken one evening at short notice by Dudley and Michael to show a film, photos and talk and distribute circulars at the "Flying Dragon" and so met some more of those who afterwards became interested in Baba, especially Barbara Morice, part owner of the "Dragon," who has since become a devoted Baba lover.

The Baba scene just before these happenings had become rather disheartening. Mr. Purdom had died and apart from the Christmas Social and the celebration of Baba's birthday, the attendances became less and less.

Our dear co-worker Douglas Eve was seriously ill and his wife Molly, also on the committee, could spare little time from nursing him. Fortunately the Hopkinsons had returned, after about eight years absence, to live in England. They agreed to come back on the Committee, but soon after Dorothy had to have an operation and at a later date they departed to America for six months. Apart from our Treasurer Joyce Bird, who efficiently managed our funds, I was more or less on my own, to manage as best I could.

About the time of the Hopkinsons return, Don Stevens put in an appearance, Don, a Sufi from San Francisco, author of Listen Humanity and co-editor with Murshida Duce of God Speaks and The Discourses, attended one of our gatherings and told us about the American scene, where the young people had been coming in large numbers to enquire about Baba. He noticed a few young people who were at the meeting, and he wrote and asked me if I could arrange for him to meet and talk to them. I also took Dorothy up one night when he was there, to a meeting at Michael's flat.

So began a year of complete exhilaration and transformation for me — the climax coming when Michael brought Peter Townshend of the "Who" pop group, with Karen, to my flat. I had heard very little pop music and never of the "Who," so did not take it in at all. That night I wore dark glasses and had burst a blood vessel in my eye and at one point lifting up to get a glimpse of Peter it seemed to me he had reddish hair and I've seen him like that ever since. He was going to Australia soon, but while he was away I had sent to Mani an article about the "Who" which had come out in the Observer supplement, with a picture of them in front. Whilst Mani was looking at it Baba came into the room, glanced at it and put His thumb on Peter's face. I had also sent posters done by Michael and Dudley which Baba saw; and He sent His love to them and all others.

So India knew what was happening, and Baba's guiding hand could be felt all the time.
