Now the next phase of his work commencing June of this year will be preparatory to his breaking of his silence, which might be in the West (America) or the East (not stated where) on the date of August 1, 1941. Of course he would want around him certain ones spiritually deeply connected with him at that time, so that would mean a party of considerable size. If it can be arranged I feel it would be the greatest thing that could happen to America that its soil should be the first upon which the Divine Word will fall. It is fitting that the most materialistic country (that America is conceded to be) should receive the first spiritual impact.
Naturally at this time there are certain restrictions to travel but it is mostly a question of time to properly surmount them, but whether this "time" fits in with Baba's "universal time" can only be seen. I make no predictions but you may know where my hopes lie. The only difference in Baba breaking his silence here or there, is he says — the difference between six days or eight days to get his spiritual work done (do not take the "days” as literal, but as comparison) and that if it is in the West it will be done in six days. It may be that he finds the East more receptive. We know that it will be as it must be, but in order for us to receive the greatest spiritual benefit, we will find that in the future we must be prepared for many sacrifices.
I presume that you, Sam* and Darwin have received your special disciplines for the period of one year. We are all under individual orders here, including a fast of one meal a day (with tea twice a day in between) and some have disciplines of not speaking, not reading or writing and more arduous ones for some of the mandali. Baba himself will remain in seclusion (removed from external working) even if he comes to the West until the time for his public manifestation when he will deliver his great Spiritual Message. We look back to the times of Christ, we know that there came a time for his public manifestation (although to his disciples he had already revealed his divine identity) and it is this period which gave the spiritual push to the world. Although the Divine Word of his teaching was first uttered far from the ten great world centers of Roman times. Think however if Christ, (like St. Paul later) had delivered his World Message not by the Sea Galilee but in Rome — who knows that if the Message delivered in that world capital would not have spread more quickly! Yet wheresoever the Divine Word is uttered, it will reach the world.
. . . I was interested to read from your letter that the Shaws saw you in New York. I am sure that a vacation will do them good, and a change makes one realize that what they have is rather nice. It is strange, or perhaps not so with Baba, that so many have been able to stay at Myrtle Beach and I, who like it the most, have only perched there from time to time.
Baba has told us more than once since we were here that he will make it an important Center for his spiritual work.
We do not actually know more than you, who are not here , when he will go to America. One day it looks as if it were right on the horizon and the next day we do not see it so clearly. One thing I am sure is, — Baba will go, and when he does it will be unexpectedly.
At present, Baba is on a nearby Mount. It is about 300 ft. above where we are staying, which is about fifteen miles from Meherabad at a place called Pimpalgaon (which means place of pimpal trees). The large reservoir which supplies Ahmednagar city is in
