about. He sits on the street opposite to the Karachi Restaurant in all seasons. Baba contacted him on the early morning of 1st October before leaving Hyderabad (Sind).

Pendu and Adi Sr. were asked to take the afternoon train. Baba with the rest of the party left Hyderabad by the early morning train. He went to a town called Shevan via Rotri Junction on the branch line of N.W.Rly. There he contacted Nadirali Shah, successor to one Makhdoomali Lal Shahbaz, said to be a Sadguru. Nadirali Shah once stood on one foot in a ditch in a jungle for six years without taking food. For the last 12 years, he only takes milk, water or soda. He does not take any solid food. He always stays at the Dargah (tomb) of Lal Shanbaz Qalander. (2) In the heart of Shevan bazaar on a bench sits one Mast called Noorali Shah Pathan. He is there for 25 years. He moves about the whole town once a day. People flock to him in numbers, offering clothes and food.

He always seems surrounded by people. Baba had to wait patiently for 8 hours from 2—0 to 10—0 p.m. to find him alone. He then contacted him. The weather was very warm and there was scarcity of good drinking water.

Baba and the party joined Pendu and Adi Sr. at Shevan railway station at midnight.

2nd and 3rd October: With no sleep overnight in the train, all reached Sukkur in the morning and stayed at a small hotel. After a hasty breakfast, they went out for Mast contact:

(1) Kazi Saheb by name comes from Kabul. He is a Mast of a high state who for 10 years sat at one place, moving about very little and very rarely. His external behavior is a peculiar way of laughing. On the approach of Baba, he began changing places till Baba contacted him in a cottage nearby. (2) Swami Hari Ram stays at Sahbela Island on the other side of the river Indus. The party crossed in a ferry boat. This Saint belongs to No. 108-class of Hindu Saints. He is a Salik and has a fair, bright face. He is fairly aged. (3) Master Nemraji was a school teacher before. His Guru (Master) was Baidul Shah (not our Baidul, Sadar of Masts!). He renounced everything. He is said to be more than a hundred years old. (4) Allahbux Mast used to sit on the Wali of a well exposed to all climates. He was there for a number of years. People then offered him a place in a big room on the river side. He is a Majzoob and has a child-like demeanour. (5) Sant Tukaram is a Hindu Majzoob. People take him to their houses for purifying themselves by doing his service. (6) Sant Ram is a naked Majzoob of a mediocre spiritual state. (7) Bhai Chowar Mast has a peculiar way of beating the ground with a stick incessantly. He is confined in a room, sitting on the ground.

4th October: Baba then went to Multan, reaching there late at night. He halted at a dak bungalow.

Multan Mast contacts: (Tapasvi Purandas Mahatma stays outside Delhi Darwaza at Gyntalao. He only takes fruits. (2) Hazrat Sadruddin Shah Salik, said to be 100 years old, is a successor to a former Saint at whose Durgah (tomb) he sits. An organized religious feeding of the poor takes place everyday, while he himself takes only 'sharbat' (sweet drink). (3) Dat Fakir Mast sits in a room at Nava Basti and accepts no offering, especially money. He has many dogs and other animals. (4) Chupshah observes silence. He lives in a mosque. He always travels on foot, even long distances. He accepts donations which he makes over for the maintenance of the mosque.

5th October: Baba with the party left Multan and reached Lyallpur at 1—0 p.m. This is a better-planned town than Multan. Within five hours of his arrival, he contacted the following Masts:

(1) Prem Chand is a Mast, semi-conscious. He was contacted at a place called Maikachugi, nearly a mile and a half away from the Lyallpur railway station. (2) There is an Indian Christian Saint, living at the Indian Christian Cemetery and has a band of followers around him. The place is called "Govindpur". On the approach of Baba, he pretended to be asleep. Baba patiently waited to see him and visited the place twice. The Mast was reticent. Without embarrassing him, Baba left the place. (3) Fakirchand Mast
