28th July to 18th October, 1946

26th and 27th July: Baba, Kaka Baria, Baidul, Eruch and Adi Sr. stayed at a very small hotel room at Hardwar on the fourth floor. For food or work, every time they had to climb up and down the precipitous narrow staircase — scraping their sides against wall and gasping for breath. Baidul and Eruch returned from Rishi Kesh disappointed. Due to the flooded river, they could not go up to Laxman Zoola. They reported about only a thousand Sadhus staying there, whereas, normally, many thousands reside. The Naga Bava, said to be of Paramhamsa state, had left for a distant place. Baidul and Eruch made exhaustive enquiries at Rishi Kesh and made arrangements to go to Uttar Kashi and Gangotri for the contact of really good Sadhus. But being informed that the road was full of breaches, the trip to Uttar Kashi and Gangotri was abandoned.

Nevertheless, we rose early morning and left for Rishi Kesh in a crowded bus. It was raining heavily. We made our way to the flooded river. At Rishi Kesh proper, a number of Sadhus did not prove to be worthy of good selection; but the visit gave us additional information about their scattered whereabouts. We then returned to Hardwar.

From Hardwar, Baba decided to go to Amritsar. We boarded a train. It was overwhelmingly crowded. Finding it exceedingly difficult to continue travelling, we got down at Ambala. Baba asked Kaka and Adi Sr. to go out to gather Mast information and, he, with Baidul and Eruch, left for Amritsar in another train.

28th July to 3rd August: Baba's contact of holy men during the week for the matter of travel was so breathlessly speedy and non-intermittent that, when he later described it to Kaka and Adi Sr., he said it was one of the most exhaustive excursions. Although Baba looked bright in the face, his body seemed to be over-worked. Baidul and Eruch looked haggard.

At Verkar village in Amritsar, Verkawda Bava or Tali Sayin was contacted. Baba and party further went to Batala junction and met Lahori Bava who was once said to be on a Government post as a commissioner. Thence the party returned to Amritsar. From Amritsar, they went to Saharanpur where Baba contacted an additional Mast on 31 July. On 1st August at Meerut City, two Saints of high calibre by name Merwan Bava and Udasi Bava and one Saint and one Mast of middle stage were contacted. The party
