Taking this opportunity, he wrote to Baba that if he was the Avatar why did he not go to the help of those poor people instead of keeping away at Pimpalgaon. In this strain, he wrote to Baba on three occasions. He then thought that he should read all the books written by Baba so that he could properly expose Baba as a fraud. With this motive he read Baba's books. Later he got information that Baba in his New Life was going to attend a mela (fair) at Hardwar. No one was permitted to meet Baba. However, he thought this to be a good opportunity to meet Baba personally.

Along with a group of companions, he went to Hardwar. There they met Babadas. They asked him where they could meet Baba. Babadas asked them to follow him. After walking some distance, he pointed to a house on the opposite bank of the Ganges river and said, "Can you see Baba standing on the balcony?" They did see Baba's figure but were not satisfied with a "darshan" from such a distance, so they crossed the river to reach the place. On enquiry at the house they were told that Baba had left for Dehra Dun the day before. He now felt that Baba was a crook and his men were hiding him inside and not allowing him to see Him. He was bent on seeing Baba so he went to Dehra Dun. He did not have the address but remembered having read that one of Baba 's lovers, Dr. Donkin, lived there. On enquiry at a chemist's shop he found Dr. Donkin's address. He went there and was told by Dr. Donkin that Baba had left Dehra Dun that very morning!

He felt disgusted and went back to Hamirpur. Later he received a circular that Baba would be giving darshan to all at Mahabaleshwar on the 16th of October, 1950. He decided to go this time and meet the man he thought to be the biggest hoax of the 20th century. He came to Poona with two friends on the 15th. They decided to see the tomb of Babajan who was one of Meher Baba's Sadgurus. He thought to himself that if they were impressed with the Guru only then was the disciple likely to be any good. When they reached the tomb they were surprised to see thousands of people paying homage to the shrine of Babajan. It was the death anniversary of Babajan and was celebrated on a grand scale. Usually the death day of Muslim saints and Masters is celebrated with great enthusiasm in India. He did not know about this and so thought that so many people must be going to pay homage. He told his friends that whether Meher Baba was a crook or not, the Guru seemed an extremely powerful person. At the tomb, they heard that Baba lovers had arranged a meeting in Poona that evening, and decided to attend it. When they arrived, devotional songs were being sung and these were followed by speeches. On hearing these his heart melted and he began to weep. He felt ashamed of his weakness and so left the meeting.
