Maharaj, again one of Meher Baba's Sadgurus, who asked him to join Meher Baba. He came to see Baba in 1926 at Meherabad. Baba asked him for his shoes. He was taken aback at this request but gave Baba his shoes. Baba put them on and said that they did not fit him. Indirectly that meant that he was not yet ready to join Baba. Baba told him that he would be present after fifteen years at a meeting between Himself and Upasni Maharaj. It happened exactly as Baba had said. This mandali member did not come to Baba again till 1941 when Baba met Upasni Maharaj at Dahigaon near Sakori, just two months before Maharaj dropped his physical body. This mandali member has played a great role in hunting out masts for Baba.

Baba left us early that morning. In the afternoon while we were playing cards with Him, a mast walked into Meherazad and sat under a tin shed. He was called "Baracoat" Mast, literally meaning twelve coats because he always wore twelve coats. Anyone wearing twelve coats in the tropics and yet feeling gay can be no other than a mast, I feel. A coat Baba had given him on a previous occasion was worn next to his skin, the others on top of it. Baba and all of us went to see him, and He asked the mandali if they had given him some food. On one of his legs the mast had wrapped some dirty rags. Baba asked him why he had done this. He replied that a stray dog had bitten him. It at once struck me that the mast's face and attire would undoubtedly send any dog chasing after him. Baba asked me to untie the rags and apply a clean dressing. He ended by saying, "After dressing him wash your hands very carefully." He then returned to the meeting hall.

We were lucky that afternoon in that Baba gave us each a custard apple as prasad and also took us to see His garden. One of the women mandali had kept this garden in perfect trim. It is very well laid out, has some rare
