his feet or hands or bowed to Baba and also to Godavari Mata. Some offered flowers and some sweets. Many had come from the nearby towns (Ahmednagar, etc.).

Baba with his own hands gave two "laddus" (round spherical sweets prepared by the management in advance) to each adult and one to each child, boy or girl. Nearly 5000 persons formed the public who had Baba's ''darshan" that afternoon. For want of time, they had to be very quick and Baba desired that the touching of feet or placing the head at Baba s feet be dispensed with.

At about 5:45 p.m., the Public Darshan was concluded. It was learned that the number was not larger than about 4500 or 5000, the reason being that no sufficient announcement was made to the public in advance of Baba's darshan program.

The concluding Arti song was recited at about 5:55 p.m. and Baba himself stood up while it was being sung. Baba wanted all to stand up and remain standing while the concluding Arti song went on.

Baba left for Pimpalgaon at about 6:00 p.m. in the evening.

No one was allowed to go ahead of Baba, who was carried in a chair for some distance and then taken in the car. The ladies walked in the front rows, in orderly lines of four, and the men followed. On the top of the hill, by the side of the dome, his future tomb, Baba sat in a chair. All the Sahavasis were asked to squat on the ground on carpets, the women in front. A mike had also been arranged. Yogi Bharati, as on other days, sat beside Baba. On the crypt was inscribed "Meher Retreat" and also "August, 1938." On the other domed building was inscribed "Mastery in Servitude." On the four corners were the emblems of Zoroastrian Fire, the Christian Cross, the Muslim Crescent and the Hindu Temple.

Baba gestured: "In the first group, I told the Sahavasis that this hill is very sacred. The major portion of My universal work was done here. I have selected this spot for My last resting place; when I drop the body, it shall rest here, in My tomb. I have fasted here for six months. I used to lie down
