on the spiritual Path for she is not always easy. Still, all should try to make her stay a happy one."

Baba never missed an opportunity on these tours to show us the beauty spots, the tombs of great saints of the different religions, and interesting historic places on these tours. At the same time he carried on his inner work. In illustration, I quote from an account written by Dr. Donkin of an episode that took place in the spring of 1940:

"At Panjim, the capital city of 'Beautiful Goa,' Baba met one of his conscious agents. About 8 miles up the estuary of the river in the city of old Goa and the big church containing the tomb of St. Francis Xavier.* As we passed this church, Baba told Elizabeth to stop and go into a small restaurant next to the church and ask when it was open to view. Out she came with a bearded man in an old suit and topi, who told her it was open at all times.

"That evening we all came with Baba to see St. Francis' tomb. Just as we were leaving in the cars, up came this same man . . . to talk to Elizabeth again of his own accord. Jal (Baba's brother), Kaka, myself and Baba all joined in the circle. Baba previously told Jal to ask the man if he was in need of any help. The man looked about 60, with rather a narrow face, clear brown eyes, Jewish nose, long flowing grey beard, longish grey hair falling to his neck and bald over the crown. He seemed dignified and spiritual-looking and spoke English. He said he came from Karachi and was staying in Goa for some months to write about it. In Karachi, he said, he had many, many dramas he had written, which had not been published . . .he spoke mostly about these. When asked by Jal about help—he said, "No, thanks, very much." He mostly looked at us, but he would at times throw a definite mysterious glance at Baba.

"Later that evening, Baba told us he was very advanced spiritually and was a conscious agent; all his talk about dramas was hidden talk to Baba. Baba had given him silent orders, and the next day Baba said he would leave Goa. Next day, Elizabeth again met the man in Pangim** itself; he seemed to appear from out of the blue, and he told Elizabeth he didn't know why,

*Tradition says that St. Thomas was the first Apostle to bring the Christian message to India, and that he landed at Goa.
